	The key factors that employees highlighted were income protection products, pension plan and critical <a href="http://www.criticalillnesscover.com/">illness cover</a>. The study showed that the benefits most highly regarded by employees were the ones deemed less important by employers, leading to a ‘value gap’. Numbers suggest that employees valued pensions the most, followed by holidays over 28 days. Canada Life’s research shows that 52% of employees do receive a pension, whilst 43% get what is considered a decent holiday package. Under this, employees are anxious to protect their income and their families, requesting income protection, <a href="http://www.criticalillnesscover.com/">critical illness cover</a> and health insurance.<br />
	Unfortunately, it is a more common scenario for companies to provide its workers with slightly less essential benefits as part of the package. Free eye tests, shopping discounts and a subsidised canteen are frequently replacing products which employees see as essential.<br />
	Redundancy cover has become popular in the current economic climate, with unemployment levels rising, it has moved up from seventh place in 2009 to fourth on a scale of how important employees consider it to be. Roughly eight percent of the respondents believe that the value of benefits has increased during the recession.<br />
	Director of sale and Marketing at Canada Life, Paul Avis, noticed the same patterns emerging, because the cost of living continues to rise employees are not concerned with benefits seen as bonuses, such as gym membership or shop discounts. Mr Avis makes the point; ‘Instead, they are looking for benefits that will protect their income whether on account of illness, critical or otherwise, or redundancy.’ He says that workers are looking for peace of mind, and that protection of their homes and families can provide this, adding ‘By offering benefits such as income protection and critical illness cover, employers can demonstrate the worth they place upon each employee.’<br />
	The study suggests that if companies were to provide these services, not only would it add to morale and help keep staff turnover to a minimum, it could also tempt prospective employees to take the plunge and relocate.</p>
